Abstract:

"In this book, distinguished education thinker Seymour Sarason calls for a complete reconceptualization of preparatory programs for educators. Sarason begins with the premise that if you want to change the education of students, you have to first change the education of their teachers. He compares this "primary prevention" approach to medical research on debilitating disease. Just because a cure or a solution is not right around the corner, there is no reason, he says, to abandon the research and efforts designed to help us arrive at a solution. Sarason's examination of issues of power in schools, higher education, and governance reminds us once again that school reform is a complex problem with no quick-fix solution."--Jacket.
