Abstract:
Photographs show Samuel Langley's tandem winged-monoplane "Aerodrome," powered by gasoline engine, piloted by Charles Manly, preparing for launch from a specially constructed houseboat on the Potomac River; the subsequent fall of the plane into the Potomac; workmen retrieving wreck from the water. LOT also includes one photograph of a Wright brothers' airplane (probably at Fort Myer, Virginia, Sept. 1908).
