Abstract:

In recent years, the library profession has been addressing issues pertaining to cataloging electronic publications. In sheer dollar terms, most of the library resources are still spent on procuring materials in paper format. Characteristics of research libraries' collections are analyzed on the premise that a general awareness of the scope of collections will help libraries segment collections into those which are likely to become predominantly electronic in the near future and those which may not. The findings are based on cataloging records contributed by 95 academic research libraries in the United States in 1995.
