The collection consists of eleven items, including five hand-written letters, four hand-written poems, and two portraits of Leland. Includes: letter to Gen. George P. Morris, 27 Feb. 1854, concerning a proposed collection of new writings to be published "for our friend Clark's benefit;" to Joseph Knight, 15 Sept. 1863, in response to his inquiry about autographs of certain German authors; to George Ripley, 1 Apr. 1864, inviting him to contribute a work that can be used as an invitation for Philadelphia's Great Central fair.

Also, to dear Doctor, 13 Sept. 1866, concerning some business of The Press; to H.C. Carey, 9 Sept. [no year], regretting he could not participate in a recent activity. Also, four poems: Northmen, come out, signed and dated April 1861; Ever free, signed and dated 8 Feb. 1864; poem headed From the German, undated; poem with first line, Hans Breitman gif a barty, undated. Also, two autographed engravings of Leland.
