The Charlton family papers, collection 2, consist of 40 items arranged, with the exception of the last three items, in chronological order, subdivided by family generation. The first folder dates from 1811 to 1831, and consists of Thomas Usher Pulaski Charlton's business letters, and Thomas Jackson Charlton I's business letters and tickets to medical classes at the University of Pennsylvania. The second folder consists of the papers of Thomas Jackson Charlton II and III, which date from 1854 to 1920. These items are tickets to Savannah Medical College classes, papers dealing with Charlton III's medical schooling, the donation of T.U.P. Charlton's letters, a pamphlet about the Georgia Medical Society, and letters concerning the health and death of Charlton III. Folder 3 consists of items that date from 1856 to about 1936. It includes correspondence with and a clipping about Dr. William H. Welch, a letter from Ann Charlton to her husband, Charlton IV, discussing family matters, and shipping manifests from 1856 of the brig, "Robert M. Charlton," named after Charlton I's brother.
