Young love and resilience are the three words that come to mind when describing Checkered Fences. A story of the pure, innocent attraction between Diane, a young woman who falls in love with the heart of a young man who is different from all she has ever known, and David, who is willing to protect and walk through life with a young woman who is different from all he has known. Told in the late 70's, Checkered Fences gives the hopeful, yet satisfying glimpse that true romantics wish for. It makes you nostalgic for the early years of romance and those oh-so-hard to forget butterflies that are burned into the heart and mind of a young love forever. A look into the eyes of young love at its best with simple, well-developed personalities, a clear storyline and an overall "sunny" approach make this short novel an easy read. The AALR, for one, looks forward to more from Alma Hudson.
