Abstract:
In the early 1900's the Hartman family faced a critical decision. With five children to feed and the father having difficulty earning a living - would it be the right thing to do to let one of their daughters leave home and work as a "cheap helper" for a well-to-do Seattle family? It is decided that it would be to Beth's "advantage" to let her go, and so there would be one less mouth to feed as well.
