Abstract:

Circular orders (1864 Oct. 9) to Lt. Col. R.G. Cole, Chief Commissary, from W.H. Taylor directs that, in order to "increase the effective strength of this Army," all able-bodied men on detailed duty under Cole's command shall "be returned to duty with their respective commands" and that all those unable to perform active service shall serve in field hospitals and other posts. On the verso are orders (1864 Oct. 14) issued by Lt. Col. R.G. Cole directing all commissaries to carry out the requirements of the circular.
