Abstract:

[China seas]: Captain Alan Gaskell sails the perilous waters between Hong Kong and Singapore with a secret cargo -- a fortune in British gold. But that's not the only risky cargo he carries. Both his fiery mistress and refined fiancée are also on board.

[Boom town]: Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy are oil wildcatters who meet during a Texas strike, take an instant dislike to each other, go into business together, tussle over a woman, break up, and reunite. The film spans years, and various parts of the continent, as each man gets rich and goes bust with regularity.

[Wife versus secretary]: Linda Stanhope wasn't jealous of beautiful Whitey Wilson, secretary to her magazine publisher husband Van, until his mother planted the seed of doubt.

[San Francisco]: Clark Gable is Blackie Norton, a ruthless Barbary Coast character whose heart is softened by the arrival of an opera singer (Jeanette MacDonald) looking for a job. He hires her for his rowdy club, while his childhood chum, Father Tim Mullin (Spencer Tracy), disapproves.

[Dancing lady]: An attractive dancer is rescued from jail by a rich man, who helps her to have her first big opportunity at a musical play on Broadway.

[Mogambo]: Victor Marswell runs a big game trapping company in Kenya. Eloise Kelly is ditched there, and an immediate attraction happens. Then Mr. and Mrs. Nordley show up for their safari and Mrs. Nordley takes a liking to Marswell. The two men and two women have some difficulty arranging these emotions to their mutual satisfaction, but eventually succeed.
