Abstract:

Collection contains 5 letters chiefly about Johnston's writings including: ALS from Johnston to Henry Mills Alden (editor of Harper's monthly), 1880 Sept 10 (concerning a name change in one of his stories or articles, his own name which is Richard not Robert, and current work--a serious sketch of a murder case, and lectures on English literature); 2 letters from Johnston to Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen, one is 1892 Jan 14 (D. Appleton and Co. are bringing out six of the Dukesborough Tales and will republish the rest if the first succeed); ALS from Johnston to S. [Symond?] E. Jones, 1893 Nov 6, (returns sketch and has signed it); and 1 signed note from Johnston to Henry [Pont?], 1892 Dec. 19 (thanking him for a favor).

There is also a photograph of Johnston inscribed by him to Edward Windsor Kemble.
