Abstract:

Letter diaries (5 v., 1907, 1909), written chiefly by Annabel Hubbard Phelps (d. 1939) to family friends, George Henry Nettleton (1874-1959), professor of English at Yale, his wife, Mary (1872-1964), and sister, Anna Tucker Nettleton (1872-1949), while the Nettletons were in Europe and England, in order to keep them in touch with friends at home in New Haven; letters from Phelps's husband, English professor William Lyon Phelps (1865-1943), to the Nettletons and their daughter, Mary (Nettleton) Haight, and her husband, Gordon Sherman Haight; records of the "It" Club, an amateur theatrical society to which they all belonged; and postcards, poems, scripts and songs for musical comedies, newspaper clippings, and photos. Includes daily account (1909) of Annabel Phelps's life in New Haven and her summer home in Huron City, Mich.; and information regarding the progress of the building of the Phelps's home in New Haven.
