The bulk of the collection of photographs were used by Maitland C. De Sormo to illustrate his books: Heydays of the Adirondacks, Seneca Ray Stoddard: versatile camera artist, and Summers on the Saranacs.

Landscape photographs include views of Debar Pond, Edmond's Pond, Raquette Lake, St. Regis River, Schroon Lake, Lower Saranac Lake, Upper Saranac Lake. Also included is a cityscape photograph of Malone, N.Y.

There are group shots of guides and help at hotels and camps in the Adirondacks, including Adirondack Lodge (sometimes spelled Loj), St. Hubert's in Keene Valley and Loon Lake House.

Photos of hotels and non-tourist structures include Adirondack Sanitarium, Fred W. Rice's boatshop and studio, the Stevens House at Lake Placid, the Will Rogers Hospital, the Willey House (or Hurricane Lodge) in Keene, Indian Carry chapel, Loon Lake House, McCollom's, the first Meacham Lake Hotel which burned in 1901, Grand Union Hotel and the Peabody Camp on Saranac Lake, a 1947 photo of the second Hotel Wawbeek, the Saranac Golf Course and the Rev. William W. Moier's camp on Lake Placid (circa 1901).

The portrait of R.B. Burchard is signed "Your devoted bo'swain". Burchard accompanied Stoddard on the second and fourth stages of the cruise of the Atlantis from Glens Falls, N.Y., to the head of the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.

Photos of industry include ruins of an iron forge at Adirondack Village and lumberjacks moving logs out of the forests by water and land.

Included also are some shots of wildlife, including deer.

There are several shots of men and women hiking, boating, golfing, playing tennis, ice skating, showing off deer they had shot or fish they had caught, including a photo of two Francisian friars in their habits fishing.

There are three small collections of photos taken by an individual or about an event: photos taken by William Kollecker, photos taken by Frederick Atherton Hodges and photos of the Wawbeek Hotel fire in 1980.
