Collected from the original journal preserved by Arrian, and illustrated by authorities ancient and modern; containing an account of the first navigation attempted by Europeans in the Indian Ocean. To which are added, three dissertations: two, on the acronychal rising of the Pleiades, by the Right Reverend Dr. Samuel Horsley and by Mr. William Wales and one by M. de La Rochette, On the first meridian of Ptolemy. II. The Periplus of the Erythrean Sea, containing an account of the navigation of the ancients: pt. 1. From the sea of Suez to the coast of Zanguebar. With dissertations. pt. 2. From the Gulph of Elana in the Red Sea, to the island of Ceylon. With dissertations. Appendix: Containing a catalogue of the articles of commerce in the Periplus, corrected, enlarged, and compared with the articles enumerated in the Digest of the Roman law, relating to the imports and exports at Alexandria.
