Abstract:
Holograph commonplace book kept by Grenville in a printed commonplace book form. There are extensive notes and comments on his reading of Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations and of Smith's translator and critic Germain Garnier; on Dugald Stewart's Moral Philosophy; Bishop Butler's Analogy; and Sismondi's Nouveau principe d'economie politique. Topical headings include "Indications of Character;" "Consumption;" "Debt, Public;" "Foreign trade;" "Morals;" "Luxury;" and "Population."
Grenville's comments on "Justice" include reflections on "the crimes and miseries of the French Revolution" and on "revolutionary principles." His extensive discussion of "Production" is unsourced and may be original to him.
