Abstract:

The principles of Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (1989) are currently taught in elementary, middle, and high schools in the United States as a means to improve schools. The success of using the Covey principles has not been fully established in schools; therefore, the purpose of this study was to conduct a formal program evaluation to discover what extent the incorporation of Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (1989) in a K-8 elementary school was effective as defined by achieving the evaluation's goals. The research site was Armitage Academy, a 127 student, K-8 independent school located in the Midwest. The study focused on several questions, which included the use, and application of the 7 Habits; the students, teachers, and parents' perceptions of the 7 habits as it was taught at Armitage Academy; and suggestions for improvement of the implementation of the 7 Habits.
