Abstract:

The collection contains letters 1790 December 7 and 1791 March 9, Jefferson to Maria Jefferson; letters 1803 February 21, 1808 June 4, 1814 September 9, 1817 June 6, and 1818 May 3, Jefferson to John Wayles Eppes; a letter 1820 June 12, Eppes to Jefferson; a letter 1864 July 20, Francis Eppes to Maria Jefferson Eppes Shine; and Eppes and Edgehill Randolph family tree, n. d.; and the name plate and title page of Maria Jefferson Eppes' book "Poems by Mr. Gray."

Jefferson requests Maria to compare the climates of Philadelphia and Monticello by listing the appearance of animals and vegetables at each and discusses family matters.

Jefferson's correspondence with Eppes discusses family matters particularly the education of his grandson Francis. He mentions his debts, his dislike of borrowing from Federalist banks, and Eppes' use of Jefferson's slaves.
