Abstract:

The correspondence from the Office of War Information comes from F. A. Whiting, Jr., chief of the Exhibit Section. Zigrosser chose the artists and approached them for 4 copies of one of their American themed prints. Letters from artists and their dealers make up the bulk of this correspondence.

There are letters from: Clement Haupers, Max Kuehne, Merritt Mauzey, Richard Correll, Howard Norton Cook, Harold E. Keeler, Minetts Good, Earle Miller, Ralph M. Pearson, F. Allen Whiting, Thomas W. Nason, Ernest D. Roth, Francis Chapin, Paul Landacre, Prentiss Taylor, Harry Sternberg, Julius J. Lankes, Jerry Bywaters, Andrée Ruellan, William Givler, Mervin Jules, Mabel Dwight, Alexandre Hogue, Rockwell Kent, Harold E. Keeler, John Bulfair, Letterio Calapai, Barbara Cook, and Jolan Gross Bettelheim, There are also some letters from dealers: Antoinette M. Kraushaar, Associated American Artists and Kennedy & Co. Also included is correspondence from various companies that supplied materials for the exhibitions. The exhibitions were titled "The United States in Pictures," and the file contains a draft of the catalog with brief biographies of the artists involved.
