Abstract:

The work of Performance [Re]Search is physical theatre at its most taxing and, for those spectators that enjoy challenging work, most rewarding. It is demanding work that investigates the performer's presence and its perception. Each production focuses on the body of the performer as the fundamental artistic material at the centre of a spectrum of all possible materials, and attempts to give visibility to it as a source of creativity. Performance [Re]Search was established in February 1994 by Serge Tampalini, Andrew Robinson and Sarah Cullity in Perth, Western Australia. Crossing Body Shadow - Serge Tampalini,Andrew Robinson, Bronwyn Turnbull, Gari-Emma Perry. Crossing Body Shadowwas devised by Serge Tampalini, Andrew Robinson, Gari-Emma Perry and Bronwyn Turnbull. It was first performed at the World Congress of University Theatre, Valleyfield, Canada, June 1997 and subsequently at the University of Malta Theatre, Valetta, Malta, in July 1997. Crossing Body Shadow may be best described as an ecology of identity, mortality, and acting. The work gathered around investigations of internal and external corporeal modalities and explored their reverberations on and within disciplines of "performance". In this work, P[R] moved towards drawing attention/focus/energy onto smaller more clearly defined corporeal sites -which in turn presented work of much greater detail and depth. 1997. Please note: this film has an archival quality; however, it is valuable content for research purposes. Other titles presented by Performance [Re]Search are Disappeariences, Living is a Horizontal Fall and Silent Moves.
