The Crown of Shakes details the wars, betrayals, seductions and dynastic struggles for the title of “Chief of the Stikine” and the much bloodied crown of Chief Shakes of Wrangell. This collection of short stories begins with the Great Flood and ends with the historical “Last Great Potlatch” in 1940. This work of historical fiction is based on traditional tales in published sources, the journals of John Muir, the books of the Reverend Young of Wrangell, and newspaper accounts from the early 1900’s.
