  This is a large, full-bodied book that will most likely appeal to young men who want a cross between an O'Reilly computer manual and an action movie. All the major characters are men, and the women feature into the plot mostly for sexual tension or as problems...

Neal Stephenson's best, so far, in my opinion. While "Snow Crash" is undeniably important from a "let's talk about the metaverse and cyberstuff" perspective, I believe "Cryptonomicon" is simply a better novel. The parallels between WWII cryptography and the disguising of data related to war efforts...

This book is the highlight of Neal Stephenson's career, and that says a lot right there.
