Abstract:

This study engages church leaders in conscious raising through aspects crucial to the integration of congregational leadership. In it there are five goals aiming at improving the attitude for congregational leadership, which cover the missional purpose of the church, the inter-connectivity of its ministry, the complexity of family relational systems, the unique and gifted way God has created person in Christian discipleship, and the synergy found in cooperating relationships within the church. Iglesia Bautista Central of Brooklyn New York (referred to as IBC) is a "historic" standing church within the short history of American Baptist Hispanic churches in Metropolitan New York, located in a highly multi-cultural Hispanic area. It has been declining in membership, leadership and finances for over two decades, which has affected the vitality of its ministry, and is currently searching for pastoral leadership. In the study, participants engage through interacting small groups, where Groomes reflection praxis method provides a participatory learning structure. The outcome shows a stronger determination among the leadership of IBC, to make a difference for incoming generations. They are willing to challenge the church's system to better integration of those in leadership by recommending an ongoing process to single out specific improvement needed, acknowledging that they themselves ought to be part of the new thing to come.
