The First Edition of "Cumberland Caverns" was published in 1989 in an 5.5 X 8 inch format and was 318 pages long.  The Second Edition was published in October 2005 in an 8.5 X 11 inch format and was 188 pages long.  The Second Edition contained new information and new photographs.  The Third Edition was published in September 2010, also in an 8.5 inch format, and is 196 pages long.  This Third Edition contains new photographs, including some in color.

Higgenbotham Cave was discovered in 1810 by Aaron Higgenbotham and exploration continued, off and on, for over a hundred years.  In the 1950s a group of organized cavers from the National Speleological Society discovered vast new sections of virgin cave and connected Higgenbotham Cave to nearby Henshaw Cave.  They purchased a lease on the cave and opened it to the public as "Cumberland Caverns" in 1955.

This book is a very detailed history of the exploration of this cave and it's many interesting features.  It's current mapped length in 28 miles, making it the second longest known cave in Tennessee.
