Documents controversies surrounding the De la Peña Diary (Mexican officer José Enrique de la Peña's critical account of the Mexican campaign into Texas in 1835-1836) such as the document's authenticity, its means of entering the U.S., and veracity of its report of Davy Crockett's death. The film includes coverage of an academic conference on the diary and interviews librarians and collectors whose lives and careers have been touched by the document. Both Mexican and U.S. historians are interviewed to give an overview of events surrounding the document's composition.
