Abstract:

Videotape made in conjunction with the exhibition The De Mille Dynasty, presented at The New York Public Library in 1984. Documentary on the De Mille family's distinguished contributions to theater, film, literature, and dance, illustrated by still photographs. The discussion begins with Henry C. De Mille, founder of the dynasty, and extends through his wife Beatrice, a champion of women's theater; his sons William and Cecil, noted for their achievements in theater and film; and William's daughter Agnes, who broke new ground as a choreographer. Also included in the program are the family's associates David Belasco and Jesse L. Lasky, founder of Paramount Pictures.
