Manuscript map on recto covers the area later bounded by 107th and 116th Streets, Amsterdam Avenue and the Harlem River, Manhattan, New York (N.Y.); shows property lines, lot lines and numbers, some buildings, existing and projected streets. Printed map on verso covers the area later bounded by 119th and 131st Streets, 3rd and Lenox Avenues, Manhattan, New York (N.Y.); shows similar information and also proposed public square and rail lines, some current owners' names.
Original date of ms. map situation between 1827 May survey and ca. 1835; altered according to note quoted below. Date of printed map situation 1835.
Date of ms. copy based on date of text printed on verso.
Pen-and-ink on paper (ms. map on recto); ink on paper (printed map on verso).
Split along fold line, silked both sides and trimmed at all margins.
Includes ms. text, on paper pasted to recto at margin: "Mr Bridges, the Surveyor of the above farm, informed me that he surveyed the same as then in possession of the De Peysters and laid it out into Lots--he showed me the map from which the one in the Reg['s] Office was copied, as he says, by which it app[eare]s that No. [1]06 is on a line with No. 188, as in the small map annexed to the Deduction of title made by me for John Burley--he further stated that he was not certain but there was a line through the triangle number [11]2 on the map in the Reg's office as in the lithographs (of which the above is a copy) but he thought not. This is altered with the Map in his possession in that particular N.Y. Mar 5th 1896 K M M[ro]tin.
