Binding: Stamped brown calf over original wooden boards, with partially missing brass clasps. Tooled decorations, consistent with patterns of German monastic production, include multiple representations of St. Andrew the Apostle, holding his cross, inside the panels on both the front and rear covers. Front inside cover lined with: 1. vellum fragment from a 13th-century Latin manuscript of Colossians (chapter 4, verse 10 is most clearly visible) written in a small Gothic book hand -- 2. vellum fragment from a 15th-century Latin manuscript of the 1st Epistle to Timothy (chapter 3, verses 2-4 most clearly visible), with marginal and interlinear glosses attributed to Lanfranc of Bec, corresponding to PL 150, cols. 351A-B, written in a humanist script. Inside rear cover lined with printed 15th-century leaf from a Latin grammatical treatise. Other manuscripts had once been pasted down to inside rear cover; residual traces of ink and parchment remain on boards.
Layout: Written in 2 columns of 36 lines, frame-ruled in lead.
Script: Written in a Gothic cursive of the 15th century.
Decoration: Initials mostly in red but some in blue; rubrication and underlining throughout.
Imperfections: Two leaves damaged, several others lost at beginning and end.
Provenance: 1. Christopher Robert Pemberton, as per R.H. Evans sale catalog of 1822 (listed as item 991) -- 2. Listed as item 74 in Thomas Thorpe catalog of 1839-- 3. Acquired in 1913 with the library of Richard Aron.
