Abstract:

"The book begins with a brief introduction of photography and dog photography (e.g. Daguerreotypes not conducive to dogs, since it required subject to be immobile for several minutes). The meat of the book is the photographs, and some favorite included the visit card Cartes-des-visite of the 1860’s. The marketing of 1887 Kodak opened up world to everyone, and as a postcard collector I enjoyed the real photo postcards, particularly one from 1910 of a boy with a puppy. Some favorite of the more modern pictures included 1952 of Bogart and Bacall with their son and 3 dogs, in 1960s’ Henri Cartier-Bresson, and the William Wegman collaboration with the dog Man Ray." -- Review by Gary Sprandel on January 20, 2015 (Amazon.com).
