Landlord Amos Brown has inherited two brownstones in the middle of Harlem and is trying to do right by his tennants. He agonizes over the troubles of all his tennants and tries to help them when he can. When an elderly friend is accused of murder, he puts a mortgage on his brownstones to help him out, but the "friend" jumps bail leaving him in a financial pickle.
