Abstract:

Although it was a cold, wet February afternoon when Amelia Evers left her New York brownstone to walk her dog, there was nothing to give her a sense of foreboding. Nor did the fact that she slipped, twisted her ankle, and was rescued by a strange man disturb her unnecessarily. But on her return to the house, she was shocked and frightened by the sight of her ex-husband's corpse on the living room floor with a knife in his back. Suddenly, she wondered if that stranger had really been as kindly and innocent as he appeared to be.
