Papers are primarily letters concerning politics, the Civil War, Reconstruction, and domestic life. They are from other lawyers, Roman Catholic churchman, and editors, but are mainly Conigland and Ezell family letters from Halifax and Northampton counties and Raleigh, N.C. Also included is the diary, 1861-1862, of Conigland's second wife, Mary Wyatt (Ezell) Conigland; speeches; clippings; and a biography of Conigland, literary writings, and reminiscences, 1899, by his daughter, Frances (Conigland) Farinholt.
