Abstract:

In the days when the Netherlands were still ruled by Spain, the governor representing the Spanish king agreed to grant the Dutch people political liberty, but the central authority in Spain is determined to undermine the independence of the Dutch people and sends Duke Alba to the country, a man driven by the desire for power. The Dutch people have placed all their hopes in Count Egmont with his charismatic personality and his love for a common maid. However, he is a weak political negotiator without tactical skills. Alba orders his arrest and execution.
