Abstract:

Explores what archaeology can tell us about life in ancient Egypt and looks at the ongoing investigations of archaeologists. Vol. 1 focuses on the history of several great temples, such as the temple at Karnak, and the current efforts to restore and preserve these temples. Vol. 2 explores Kent Weeks' discovery in 1987 of tomb KV5, the largest tomb in the Valley of the Kings and resting place of the children of Ramesses II. Vol. 3 examines the daily life of the common people and looks at the results of fieldwork at Mendes and Deir El Medina. Addresses topics such as diet, sanitation, and the role of women in ancient Egypt. Vol. 4 investigates the ancient Egyptians' views on death and the afterlife, as well as the rituals and rites, such as mummification, associated with burials.
