A teleconference held October 4, 1994 to consider the impact of rapidly developing automation on libraries and the broad professional implications of the next stage of the electronic library. Discussed are leadership roles in staff training for future developments, the role of libraries in the information highway, the relationship of libraries to society, funding the new technology, role of authors and institutions in the change, lessons of the past, choices and change in how libraries operate and behave in adapting to the electronic library, problems of integration and collaboration, document delivery and interlibrary loan.
