This is a debut novel, set in present day Oxford University library and Gutenberg's print shop in Germany as he is perfecting his press. The story line centers around a book in a wooden chest carved with beasts. The chest has an ornate lock made of serpents whose fangs, when they first taste blood will bring the most legendary sought after book in the world to life. It reminds one of Inkheart and Inkspell. One of my avid middle school readers gave the book a "thumbs up" but said it starts out slow and builds to a great ending. Recommended for grades 6 - 9.
