The average energy of electrons in a gas in an arbitrary electric field is determined from the time dependent Boltzman transport equation. The assumptions are: collision frequencies are dependent of energy and there are only elastic collisions. The solution is obtained for the case of a sinusoidally varying field and contrasted with a solution obtained on a more elementary level. (Author).
