Abstract:

Two complex pieces of chamber music-Corelli's Concerto Grosso Op. 4 No. 6 and Schubert's Octet in F major-are the focus of this program. Their performance by the Brandenburg Consort and Hausmusik is designed to enhance the development of discriminating listening skills. During the performances, students hear music on the time scale intended by the composer, and listen as instruments move into successive prominence. In the Corelli Concerto Grosso, contrast between two musical groups-the concertino soloists and the accompanying ripieno orchestra-is shown. The Brandenburg Consort performs Concerto Grosso; Hausmusik performs Schubert's Octet.
