Abstract:
"Erik H. Erikson, one of the most prolific and famous psychologists of the twentieth century, is known for conceptualizing the "identity crisis" and for portraying the human as one who develops in eight stages from infancy through old age. Less well known is his extensive work on the psychosocial content that fuels adult development. For the past decade, Carol Hoare has written extensively on the concepts of adult development that are scattered throughout Erikson's work. She has been aided by extensive access to Erikson's unpublished papers at Harvard University and by her interviews with a number of persons who knew and worked with Erikson. Prominent among them was Joan Erikson, Erikson's wife and long-time collaborator. By synthesizing Erikson's insights into adulthood from his unpublished papers, Hoare provides not only a much-needed integration of Erikson's thought, but also a glimpse into the dynamic mind of one of the twentieth century's most profound thinkers."--Jacket.
