Abstract:

Includes exhibition files from the Office of the Registrar, the Curatorial Department, and those records previously processed, microfilmed and maintained as exhibition files by the Archives of American Art Texas Project (1978-1985). The records contain extensive information on the Museum's exhibitions, though gaps occur between the years 1924-28 and 1934-37. The files document the changing nature of the exhibitions schedule as well as the increased size and specialization of the Museum's staff.

The files include annotated exhibition catalogues; box lists; brochures; catalogue drafts and galley proofs; checklists; correspondence; greensheets; invitations; loan forms and receipts; memoranda; newspaper clippings (photocopies); plot plans for works of art; press releases; research notes; and shipping receipts.

Correspondents include artists; curators; museum directors; elected officials (congressmen and senators); lenders; and various museum personnel, including registrars and publicity directors.

For additional information on the Museum's exhibition history, see History of the MFAH under Archives Holdings at http://222.mfah.org/archives/.
