Abstract:

Explains to caregivers how they can foster a child's natural interest in science through the exploration of nature. In exploring their surroundings children construct their own knowledge--examining their everyday world expands their perceptions through observation. To create a developmentally appropriate science and nature curriculum for young children, caregivers can introduce learning processes (observation, classification, comparison, communication, inference, and prediction), skills (using numbers, measurement, space/time relationships), and exploit the excitement of investigative field trips.
