Abstract:
When Ray Grass died he left an estate worth millions and a valuable collection of firearms. He had been an enthusiastic sportsman, and the verdict of "accidental death due to carrying a loaded gun while climbing a fence" surprised his friends. Such careslessness was uncharacteristic, so Keith Calder agreed to investigate further. After learning the detailed facts he set out to prove the truth, which wouldn't be easy since he was surrounded by people who, in individual and bizarre ways, would benefit hugely from Grass's death.
