Abstract:

Change is an integral part of any family's day-to-day experience. Problems, crises, transitions, and change all affect the family as our society progresses into a more complicated future. Families feel every stress in our society's fabric, ranging from the difficulties associated with divorce to violence and abuse. Researchers and practitioners grapple with these complex issues each day and require suggestions and solutions to the tough situations associated with families and change. With this second edition of Families and Change, Patrick C. McKenry and Sharon J. Price have integrated scholarship from a variety of disciplines to address the most common problems faced by contemporary families. An overview of the major points of contention, explanatory theories, and research knowledge are discussed by leading researchers in the field. Contributing authors each represent a particular area of expertise and provide an interdisciplinary approach to the topic. In addition, particular attention is given to issues of special populations as they are disproportionately affected by many of the stresses of family change. -- from back cover.
