Abstract:

Three men of varied interest are conspicuous among 19th c. scientists. Mr. Macdonald relates their backgrounds, personalities & contributions to science. Michael Faraday discovered & developed the practical relationships governing the interaction of electricity & magnetism that formed the cornerstone for the electrical industry as well as radio & television. James C. Maxwell formulated the fundamental mathematical description of Farady's lab work. Wm. Thompson (Lord Kelvin) extended Faraday's & Maxwell's works & contributed to our understanding of heat. He helped formulate the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
