Inspired by a true story. A priest sees the problem of homeless black children, & asks his parishioners to consider adoption. Meeting only apathy, he says he will adopt a child himself, drawing the attention of the local media & the Cardinal, who forbids him to adopt. But the Vatican approves his plan, & he begins proceedings to adopt a teenager whose involvement with a gang tests their relationship.
