Abstract:

Wagner-Camp 4: "After the great expedition, Clark devoted his life to military and Indian affairs in Missouri Territory, where he served as territorial governor from 1813 to 1820. The William Clark papers are in the Missouri Historical Society, his Saint Louis Superintendency papers are in the Kansas State Historical Society, his letters sent to Washington are in the National Archives, and his field notes and maps are at Yale. The latter were edited by Ernest Staples Osgood and published by Yale University Press in 1964." Wagner-Camp 13:7: "William Clark's field notes, December 13, 1803-April 3, 1805, describing their winter of waiting on the Mississippi and first year up the Missouri, were discovered only a few years ago. Cutright recounts this discovery and subsequent legal proceedings that transpired before the manuscripts were finally deposited in Beinecke Library at Yale in 1960. They were subsequently edited by Ernest Staples Osgood and published by Yale University Press.".
