Abstract:
The plow that broke the plains traces the social and economic history of the Great Plains from the settlement of the prairies through the World War I boom to the years of depression and drought. The river is a Depression-era documentary which chronicles the exploration and exploitation of the Mississippi River from the Civil War through the 1920s. The fight for life is a documentary on the struggle of a young doctor against disease and death during pregnancy and childbirth in a city slum.
