Abstract:

Historian Dan Snow looks back at the history of three major cities in terms of their public health and hygiene, giving a comprehensive history using CGI footage to show how the city streets may have looked. The The first part features London in medieval times. The effects the plague had on the future cleaning up of London are discussed and the process of transformation is described. The second part is Paris at the time of the revolution. The famous guillotine is discussed as well as the overflowing cemetries. However, the revolution was to transform the city and give birth to a new republic. The third part features New York during the industrial revolution. Snow describes the corruption and social cramming that went on there and the deadly disease-carrying parasites that thrived in the buildings.
