Dr. Miroslav Pavle Manovski received the 2013 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Arts Based Educational Research (ABER) Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) in San Francisco, CA.

Determining the award recipient was a two-stage process. During the first round, 3 blind reviewers reviewed all submissions and determined the top 3 submissions. During the second round, a second set of blind reviewers completed a careful evaluation of these 3 and submitted their detailed assessment of each. In both rounds, this dissertation was assessed as outstanding by established arts-based researchers and scholars. The jurors described Finding my voice as "an ambitious, courageous scholarly thesis that embodies arts-based research in all facets of research, methodology and representation" and that of those dissertations submitted, this work will have "the most significant––broadest and deepest––impact on both the scholarly discourse surrounding its topic of choice, and even on the larger public consciousness and conversation."
