Abstract:

Program 1: Finishing the Unfinished. Many composers left works unfinished through death or for other reasons. Our feature deals with modern attempts to finish these compositions. Brian Newbould's reconstructions of some of Schubert's unfnished symphonies; Barry Coooper's completion of the first movement of Beethoven's 10th Smphony; Alfano's ending for Puccin's "Turandot", Anthony Payne's realisation of Elgar's Sketches for his Third Symphony.

Program 2: Victoria de Los Angeles. This outstanding Spanish soprano looks back at her life. She speaks about her native Catalonia, and its music; about her finding success in the world of opera in Europe and at the Metropolitan in New York, but also about the joy she derives from her more intimate recital programs.
