Three decades before Judith Miller was charged with obstructing justice for not revealing her sources, a young African American New York Times reporter named Earl Caldwell was involved in a very similar situation. He and former Time columnist Jack White recount the Caldwell case, which reached the Supreme Court and become an important precedent in the area of freedom of the press.
