plot summary: A boy name Chico and his family move from one migrant camp to another picking whatever is in season. one night he and his family arrive at a camp to pick grapes. Chico has to start at a new school and he doesn’t want to go because the other kids pick on him. but instead of his first day going bad it goes good. His teacher likes him, he makes a new friend named john and he stands up to 4th grade bullies.
Personal Response: I think that readers of all back rounds can relate to this story. children can relate to being scared going to the first day of school. they feel that they wont make new friends and none of the other children will like them. Also, they can relate to his bravery when he stands up to the two bulllies. I really enjoyed this story. the illustrations in the book are done in water color, colored pencils, and pastels. I really liked the illustrations because they have so much detail and because of the colors. they get the readers attention. I like the fact that the story has spanish words with the english language . for example it says Andale which means hurry up,abuela for grandmother, hola for hi, and many more. this book makes me proud of my culture. I can relate to this story.the characterization is very strong in this stor. i like how chico shows that he is brave standing up to the bullies.
